Mitsubishi to recall more than 130,000 vehicles in U.S.

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is recalling 130,354 Outlander and other vehicles in the United States made between 2009 and 2011 to fix malfunctions.

Those malfunctions could affect their headlights, tail lights, windshield wipers and defrosters, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday.

Some 53,396 of the vehicles are being recalled due to a defective control unit for head and tail lights and windshield wipers. The affected cars include the 2009 and 2010 Lancers and Outlanders.

A faulty blower that may affect the windshield defroster prompted the recall of another 76,958 vehicles, it said. These include the Lancers from 2009 to 2011, Lancer Sportbacks from 2010 to 2011, the Lancer Evolutions from 2010 to 2011, and the 2011 Outlander Sport.

Mitsubishi Motors has filed for to recall the models for the same reasons with the transport ministry in Tokyo.
