The comments came after Rosneft signed a number of agreements on shipbuilding during a ceremony to inaugurate the first stage of Zvezda in the town of Bolshoy Kamen, to the east of Vladivostok.
The pilot construction projects, placed by Rosneft at Zvezda, will see construction of five so-called green Aframax tankers with deadweight of 114,000 mt each as well as multifunctional replenishment ships, including those of ice class, Rosneft said in a statement.
The tankers will run on natural gas and meet "high ecological standards and new rules that limit sulfur content and greenhouse gas emissions in the basins of the Baltic and North seas, to be introduced in 2020," Rosneft said in a statement.
Rosneft plans to use those tankers to export crude and oil products from Baltic ports on a CIF basis, which envisages a delivery to a buyer's port, it said.
Rosneft and Exxonneftegaz - the ExxonMobil-led consortium developing the Sakhalin 1 project - also signed a protocol to consider the project's needs in new tankers that would be built at Zvezda.
In addition, Rosneft and Dutch Damen signed an agreement to design and manage multifunctional replenishment ships of high ice class.
The agreement, signed by Rosneft and a joint venture between Rosneft and Damen, Zvezda Marine Technologies, envisages the partners to sign contracts by the end of this year to build at least four such vessels at Zvezda shipyard, Rosneft said. ■
