Takata airbag recall expanded to 19 million vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSA) increased the number of vehicles affected to 19 million or about 40 million airbags.

NHTSA said 12 automakers, including Toyota, GM, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and BMW, are involved in the recall but others could be added. The regulators said they are also considering forcing automakers to accelerate repairs on the air bags made by Japanese-based Takata.
