Vietnam Electricity Corporation will install five solar power stations in various parts of the country as part of a campaign to promote and develop renewable energy.Article continues below
With funding from the World Bank (WB), the project will allow the collection of high-quality data on solar radiation in the Indochina nation with a view to generating sustainable and environmentally friendly energy, industry sources said.
The information gathered by the stations can be accessed free of charge on the website of Global Solar Atlas (globalsolaratlas.info) with the purpose of providing tools to those interested in investing in the construction of solar power plants in this country.
The cost of producing this energy is decreasing in the world and Vietnam is in a position to take a big step in promoting clean energy generation, said Ousmane Dione, representative of the WB here.
Dione said that the institution will continue to support Vietnam to meet the growing demand for electricity through sustainable initiatives such as solar and hydroelectric plants, energy saving in the industrial sector and the increase of electricity network efficiency in transmission and distribution activities. ■ What to read next
