The grocery retailer anticipates paying roughly $5.1 million in tuition assistance during the 2017-2018 school year for both new and returning recipients, the company said.

“It’s important to us that our employees are engaged in our business and continue to learn and grow,” said Colleen Wegman, president and CEO in a statement.

“Our employee scholarship program is just one way we’re providing growth opportunities for our people by helping them pursue higher education and career goals that benefit both the individual and the greater ommunity.”

Over 35,000 employees have been awarded scholarships—a total of $110 million—since 1984.
