Through 80 years of experience Ekornes came with a range of innovations, some of them very complex ones, with the goal to create the most conforming seat possible. Their 15 designers and product developers came with 500 ideas that were narrowed to 100 to 200, and then the product council gave go ahead to just a few of them that will entered production. This very long and difficult process, up to four years, gives stellar results and every Ekornes piece clearly shows how much effort was built in it.
At the core of the Stressless line is rigid European beech, out of which wood workers create bases with elegant curves and the distinctive swivel ring. The wood is then stained, inspected to eliminate flaws, and atop this solid base there is a complex system of springs, foam and one continuous steel rod to support the entire structure. The design of springs includes the flexible lumbar spring in the Plus System, which cradles the back, neck and head for the optimal support in any recline position.
