It is hard to write about design and not to write about Italian companies and designers. It is also hard to figure out why there is that much talent concentrated in a single country. Maybe it's the landscape, maybe it's the sun, maybe it's about genes. Anyway, when thinking about new furniture or bathroom stuff, Italy should be the first choice.
Some 30 kilometres from Rome there is Civita Castellana, the home town of Hidra Ceramica. One of the Italian leading producers of sanitary ware and bathroom furnishings began manufacturing its own products in 1989.
Hidra Ceramica mixes state-of-the-art technology, continuous research and continuous investments in human resources. The result of all that is beautiful and high-quality products that suit the most innovative trends of the ever demanding markets.
Hidra collections are characterized by quality and attention to design, they are designed and manufactured through the constant collaboration with famous designers. Carlo Urbinati, born in Rome in 1949, started his Product-Design activity cooperating with some Italian companies in the sector of the furniture, lighting, bathroom and kitchen. With some companies he acts as Art director and coordinator of the business image, besides collaborating as designer. Mr. Urbinati has been president of the design association "In forma azione", so it is an ideal person to work with.
Two younger designers that contribute greatly to Hidra's products are Sandro Meneghello and Marco Paolelli. They are both born in 1979, and graduated at the Faculty of Design in Milano. Since 2005 they have collaborated with several Italian and foreign design companies. They are full of fresh ideas but with great respect to Italian traditional craft, and that combination is clearly visible in their works.
With the commitment of achieving an always more efficient service of customer care Hidra has extended its philosophy of quality and design providing with a new service which includes the design of special corners dedicated to Hidra products in sales point. Hidra is distributed throughout Italy and abroad in 50 countries with remarkable results in United States, France, UK, New Zealand and Spain.
Hidra Ceramica has several lines of products and we recommend that you look at Design Area. There you will find six subcategories and several products in every category, so there's plenty to choose from. Hidra's designs sometimes look very traditional and sometimes very modern. Luckily, they don't go to extreme. Take for an example Hi-Line collection. It looks very, very modern, but not futuristic to extreme. The shapes are interesting now and will be interesting for the years to come. To put is simply, it's more a sculpture than the product you will use every day. I approve that approach because we all need a little bit of art in our life to make our days more interesting. Hidra Ceramica surely can make every day more interesting. ■
