Lars Scheidler was fascinated by the shape and function of all kinds of knives from his early days. Over the years he has perfected his skills in the art of knife making and today he is one of the best craftsmen around. Nesmuk knives are not just proof of his skills but also of his outstanding sense of balance, plus a commitment to functional perfection and aesthetic appeal.
In its basic form, the Nesmuk is the type of knife that has always appeared in the 3,500 year-old history of traditional knife making when a tool was needed for especially demanding cutting tasks. Lars Scheidler was inspired by the aesthetic appeal, efficient function and logical shape of this "original knife" and has re-interpreted and perfected it for the Nesmuk Collection.
In order to achieve superior results, Lars Scheidler uses data collected in many years of studies and comparative analytical tests. This data enables the production of all Nesmuk knives according to the optimisation principle. They deliver optimum material quality and composition, perfect blade geometry, accomplished heat treatment and maximum precision.
Nesmuk knives are produced according to a three-layer technique. The core is made of file steel with 1.3% carbon content to provide the knife with outstanding hardness and cutting power. The pure iron side pieces are forge welded to the core in a complex process that gives the knife different degrees of hardness ranging from soft on the outside, through tough and then hard at the core.
This process ensures the optimum utilisation of the special properties and benefits of the selected steel grades. This sophisticated material matrix also optimises sharpening angle precision. Nesmuk is incredibly hard and delivers lasting cutting power.
Handle length and thickness are usually selected to fit the user's hand. The handle should be slightly longer than width of the palm. Nesmuk knife handles have an oval cross-section and a harmonious, 'hand-friendly' shape. This enables different 'grips' and makes them comfortable to use for long periods of time, even when strong pressure is being exerted. The handles are all solid. The blade has a 'stick tang' which is inserted into the handle's core, so there are no metal edges.
The functions of the sheath are to protect the knife user from injury and to protect the cutting edge against damage and blunting. A special drainage aperture prevents the blade from being damaged by moisture inside the sheath.
Lars Scheidler's leather sheaths are distinguished by selected natural materials in the very highest quality, precision handcraftsmanship and durability. They are manufactured in strong, high quality leather using robust saddler's techniques, sewn together with tear and abrasion resistant yarn or artificial sinew and impregnated.
We can compress this whole article in a single sentence: The Nesmuk is state of art. Period. ■
