Bulgaria: Trade in goods of with third countries down 22.6 percent

In January 2021 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 22.6% in comparison with the same month of 2020 and added up to 1 378.0 Million BGN.

Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, the United States, Serbia, the United Kingdom, the Republic of North Macedonia and the Russian Federation, which accounted for 57.3% of the exports to non EU countries.

In January 2021 in the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, а growth compared to January 2020 was recorded only in section ‘Food and live animals’ (12.8%). The most notable fall was reported in sections ‘Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (88.1%) and ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (69.0%).

Imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in January 2021 decreased by 15.0% in comparison with the same month of 2020 and added up to 1 872.1 Million BGN (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Turkey, China, the Russian Federation, Peru, Serbia and Ukraine.

In January 2021 in the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth compared to January 2020 was recorded in the sections ‘Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (22.1%) and ‘Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)’2 (3.6%) .

The most notable fall was observed in sector ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (54.3%). The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in January 2021 was negative and added up to 494.1 Million BGN.

In January 2021 the total value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 4 685.5 Million BGN which is 6.1% less than the same month of 2020- The total value of all the goods imported in the country in January 2021 amounted to 4 941.8 Million BGN (at CIF prices), or by 6.8% less than January 2020.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in January 2021 and amounted to 256.3 Million BGN.
