Economic sentiment changes only minimally in Slovakia

In October, the three-month moving average of the economic sentiment indicator (ESI) changed only minimally in Slovakia.

Compared with the result of the previous month, its value 102,9 decreased by 0,1 points.
The favourable development in services and among customers was hampered by an unfavourable development in industry, construction and trade. ESI is currently exceeding the value of the corresponding period last year by 1,2 points and it is lagging behind the long-term average equally by 1,2 points.
In October compared with September, the confidence indicator in industry decreased by 6,7 points to -0,7, thus returning again below the level of the long-term average.
The indicator's development was influenced mainly by the expected decrease of the production over the next three months.
In October compared with the previous month, the confidence indicator in construction decreased by 2,5 points to -14,5 as a result of less favourable evaluations of the level of overall order books.
The current result is exceeding its long-term average by 12,5 points. Confidence indicator in trade 17,3 decreased by 1 percentage point in October compared with September as a result of the negative evaluations of the expected business activities.
In October compared with September, the confidence indicator in services continued increasing, its value (17) increased by 5 percentage points.
The indicator's development was affected by positive evaluations of the business situation and the demand over the past three months, while the expected demand was evaluated more negatively by respondents.
The consumer mood improved again in October. Compared with the previous month, the seasonally adjusted consumer confidence indicator -4,7 after the increase by 0,4 points reached its most favourable value since February 2008.
The current seasonally adjusted result is by 5,2 points higher than in the corresponding period last year and it exceeded the long-term average. ■
