In December 2016, production in industry was down by 3% from the previous month on a price, seasonally and working day adjusted basis according to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

In November 2016, the corrected figure shows an increase of 0.5% (primary +0.4%) from October 2016.
In December 2016, production in industry excluding energy and construction was down by 3.4%. Within industry, the production of capital goods decreased by 5.4% and the production of consumer goods by 3.1%. The production of intermediate goods showed a decrease by 1.1%.
Energy production was down by 0.9% in November 2016 and the production in construction decreased by 1.7%.
Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in December 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 5.2% on November 2016.
For November 2016, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in a decrease of 3.6% compared with October 2016 (primary –2.5%).
Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had increased in December 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.4% on November 2016.
In December 2016, domestic orders increased by 6.7% and foreign orders by 3.9% on the previous month.
New orders from the euro area were up 10.0% on the previous month, new orders from other countries remained unchanged compared to November 2016.
In December 2016 the manufacturers of intermediate goods saw new orders fall by 0.6% compared with November 2016.
The manufacturers of capital goods showed increases of 9.7% on the previous month. For consumer goods, a decrease in new orders of 1.8% was recorded.
The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in December 2016 was down a seasonally and working-day adjusted 2.9% on the previous month. In November 2016, the corrected figure shows an increase of 0.7% to October 2016 (primary +0.4%). ■
