Italy consumer confidence falls, business confidence improves

Italy's consumer confidence decreased marginally in April, while business confidence improved further, survey data from the statistical office Istat showed.

The consumer confidence index broadly unchanged in April, falling from 107.6 in March to 107.5. Economists had expected the index to drop to 107.4.

Households' expectations regarding the general economic situation of the country for the next twelve months weakened in April. The corresponding index fell to 110.1 from 111.6 in March.

Data also showed that the composite business confidence index climbed to 107.4 in April from 105.1 in March.

Among components, the manufacturing confidence index improved to 107.9 in April from 10.7.2 a month ago.

Similarly, the morale for both retail and construction sector registered rises in April.
