Portugal growth steady in Q2, external demand positive

Portugal's economy expanded at a stable pace in the second quarter, preliminary figures from Statistics Portugal showed.

Gross domestic product grew 0.2 percent in the three months to June, same as in the previous two quarters. A year ago, the growth was 0.4 percent.

The net external demand impacted positively, while domestic demand failed to contribute, the agency said.

On a year-on-year basis, GDP increased 0.8 percent in the second quarter, slightly slower than the 0.9 percent expansion in the previous three months. In the same period last year, growth was 1.5 percent.
