The largest retreat in confidence stemmed from consumer views on current and future domestic economic conditions, both of which sharply fell further into pessimistic territory.
In addition, consumers felt less confident about current and future living standards, future household income and future spending levels.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.3% in 2019, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
For 2020, the panel sees private consumption growth at 2.2%. ■
