UK retail sales rise more than forecast
Excluding auto fuel, retail sales climbed 0.5% after rising 0.6% in June. This was also faster than the expected 0.1%.
On a yearly basis, retail sales volume growth slowed to 1.3% from 2.8% in June. Economists had forecast 1.4% annual growth.
Likewise, sales excluding auto fuel, grew 1.5%, weaker than June's 2.8% increase, but better than 1.2% forecast.
Data from the Ministry of Finance showed that Japan logged a merchandise trade surplus of 418.8 billion yen in July.
That topped forecasts for a surplus of 327.1 billion yen but was down from 439.8 billion yen in June. ■
