Fiji's Ministry of Health said in a statement that the two new border quarantine cases of coronavirus are Fijian citizens who arrived in the island nation on a repatriation flight from the New Zealand city of Auckland on Nov. 19.

According to the ministry, the two females, aged 75 and 57 respectively, reside in Auckland and it is likely that they contracted the virus on the flight from Auckland as they were both seated near a person who tested positive on day 2 of border quarantine.

They had both tested negative in Auckland, 72 hours before boarding the flight to Fiji, then tested negative again during day 2 testing in the border quarantine. Their positive test results have come on day 12 of border quarantine.

Currently, the two new cases, who are both in stable condition, have been under strict border quarantine conditions at a hospital in Lautoka, Fiji's second largest city.

The ministry also warned that Fiji is expected to continue to get more imported coronavirus cases during this festive time.

Fiji, which now has 44 coronavirus cases overall, reported its first confirmed coronavirus case on March 19 this year and two coronavirus patients have died.

The island nation still maintains a strict travel restriction for foreign visitors as it also keeps a nationwide curfew effective from March 30.
