A healthy nutrition is important for all our organs. Since every organ works in cooperation with one or few others, our liver, the main laboratory of our organism, needs a help from our kidneys and the intestine.
Regularly drinking juices of carrots, red beet, radicchio and dandelion is considered as the traditional approach to liver cleaning. One to two litters of water on a daily basis, and fruits and vegetables rich of potassium such as bananas, almonds, potatoes, raisins and plumbs benefit our liver.
Our liver also likes artichokes. Artichoke stimulates liver functions and decreases a level of fat and cholesterol in our blood. Artichokes are rich with substances that are good protection for our liver.
Health of liver also depends on regular digestion. Inulin, a type of fibber that is found in food such as artichokes, onion, garlic, bananas or wheat, is the food for good bacteria in the intestine. Inulin enhances the growth and activities of good bacteria and suppresses the growth of harmful ones. Inulin is not absorbable carbohydrate and it has mild laxative effect.
Garlic contains sulphur compounds which help in detoxification of harmful metals such as mercury, and that particular effect indirectly acts favourably to our liver.
Oats, rice, plumbs, citruses, pulse and Brussels sprouts are ingredients rich with soluble fibres. Apples and pears are fruits rich with pectin, a fibre that mildly decreases the level of cholesterol in our blood.
Chlorophyll acts as the cleaner of blood and liver. All dark green vegetables are perfect source of chlorophyll and other phytochemicals that have a wide range of positive influences on our health.
Lot of studies show different results in testing Silybum marianum (Milk thistle), the most known healthy herb for liver diseases. Silymarin, Silybum marianum active complex, showed positive effects of this plant to liver. Although Silymarin shows good test results it needs to be tested on the bigger number of the examinees for more precise results.
