Most often the cause of haemorrhoids is strain during the passing of the stool. Additional elements that can cause haemorrhoids are pregnancy and childbirth, heritage, getting old, chronic constipation, diarrhea, sitting or standing for a long time, obesity and anal infections.
While some haemorrhoids are passing problems like haemorrhoids that appear in women while they are pregnant, in same people they come because of family history, while same people have it but they don't have the symptoms. Haemorrhoids are usually harmless condition that doesn't put human's life in danger.
Haemorrhoids can be internal or external. Symptoms of internal haemorrhoids are stool covered with light blood, blood on toilet tissue or on toilet bowl. Internal haemorrhoids usually don't cause discomfort. On other side, straining can push an internal haemorrhoid through the anal opening causing external haemorrhoid.
Symptoms of external haemorrhoids includes painful and swollen clot formation around anus as a result of coagulated blood. The whole area is vulnerable, sensible and itchy. Haemorrhoids can bleed. We can describe the appearing of external haemorrhoids with a pipe.
Now, imagine a pipe that is clinched on one side. Because it is clinched a fluid cannot flow normally, and in front of that place the pipe swells. That happens with your blood vessels when you sit for a long time or when you wear tidy trousers, and the result is external haemorrhoid.
Mild cases of haemorrhoids can be treated with drinking more water (eight to nine glasses of liquid) and eating food rich with fibre such as grains, fruits and vegetables. It is also very important to keep your digestion in order. Obtain a habit to go on toilet every day at the same hour. Take a daily newspaper with you to read if you think that is useless action. It will work after a while. Consult your doctor about using stool softeners.
If you start to use it remember that you must drink a lot of water because otherwise fibre supplements will cause even worse constipation. And of course, something that nobody likes to hear, exercising reduces veins pressure and prevent constipation, so be active. Also bathing in a bath with warm water helps. Be sure that area around your anus is always clean so let the use of bide be your next habit. Try not to strain and go to toilet as soon as you feel that you must because otherwise your stool could become dry and you will be in trouble again.
If nothing of that helps and you feel severe pain, bleed frequently or excessively, feel dizziness or faintness, seek for doctor's help. Blooding can be a symptom of other gastrointestinal tract diseases like colon tumor. If together with haemorrhoids tarry or maroon stools occurs, ask for doctor's help without delay. ■
