Prostate is a gland that encompasses lower part of a bladder. It lies behind pubic bone and in the front of a rectum. At birth it is large like a pea and it grows until 20 years of age. It doesn't change until 45, when it starts to grow again. Its primary function is to produce most of fluids in sperm, the fluid that transfers the sperm. Prostate is not primary component of urinary tract, but it is very important for urinary health. Prostate encompasses upper part of urethra. If we imagine prostate like a small apple without essence, exactly through that missing essence goes urinary urethra. If illness in prostate appears, its tissue can swell or enlarge and make pressure on urethra causing the problems with urination.

prostatIrritating or painful symptoms are the first signs that you probably have problems with the prostate gland. There are three possible scenarios of prostate illness. That can be inflammation (the most common in men under 50 years of age); benign growth (benign prostatic hyperplasia - men around 45) or cancer (men over 50).

Signs that indicate problems with prostate are: dull pain in your lower pelvic area, pain during urination, intermittent urine flow, difficulty with starting urination, a sensation that your bladder doesn't empties, problems with urgency of urination or with weak urine flow, and frequent urination at night. Usually, those symptoms are accompanied with unexplainable face paleness and temperatures.

Problems with prostate gland start with a group of symptoms, not with one or two symptom. Irritation and pain are the symptoms that must not be ignored as some men do because "every men have the same problems". Notice that there are no symptoms for prostate cancer in its early phase. So, if you have any symptom written above, visit your urologist.

Some other problems like urinary infection; bladder problems or kidney stone can cause exactly the same symptoms. Thus, if those symptoms are accompanied with blood in your urine, painfully ejaculation and general pain in your lower back, hips and leg bones, significant lost of weight - you must inevitable visit your urologist.

prostatRisk factors for prostate illness involve men with family history, older men, fat men and racial group. Man whose brother had a prostate cancer have 4.5 times higher risk of prostate cancer and 2.5 time higher if his father had a prostate cancer. Prostate cancer usually appears after 50 years of age and it is a result of abnormal and uncontrolled growth of a cells. More than 65 percent of prostate patients are 65 years old or older. Data also shows that every sixth man in the USA has prostate cancer.

Scientists from Boston Massachusetts General Hospital did a research on 788 men with prostate cancer. Their data shows that mortality in patients with normal weight amounts 6.5 percent and with overweight patients 12 to 13 percent in period of five years. The lowest risk of prostate cancer has Israel, Russia and Japan. Very high risk has men in North Europe, North America and New Zealand. Cancer frequently appears in Afro-American men, but it is rare in the most parts of Africa.

That suggest that environment, especially food, can be responsible for differences between nations. Prostate cancer can't be prevented, but you can reduce the risk or possibly slow the disease progression.
