Hurricane Patricia hits Mexico softer than expected

President Enrique Peña Nieto said in a message on YouTube that the damage from Hurricane Patricia was not so huge yeat and no deaths had been reported.

However, Mr. Peña Nieto warned that the storm continued to thrash the country’s southwest coast and that the danger was far from past.

“The first reports confirm that the damage has been less than that corresponding to a hurricane of this magnitude,” Mr. Peña Nieto said. He said that “the phenomenon is continuing in its course” and asked people to remain in shelters.

There is still a danger of life-threatening floods, mudslides as Patricia weakens to Category 2.
