'The friends of the United States and the European Union have reestablished their democracy: pogroms against indigenous peoples, beatings of journalists and elected officials, a military coup. This is their ideal world,' the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean Luc-Melenchon, posted on Twitter.
For his part, the National Secretary of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, pointed out in a statement that the Bolivian right-wing fabricated the fallacy of electoral fraud as a pretext to unleash violence, a scenario guaranteed 'by the logistics of US services.'
The Francia-América Latina Insumisas Group underlined that the coup is part of the response from Washington and its instrument, the Organization of American States (OAS), against the democratic and social movements underway in the region.
'This is how they seek to stop the peoples who choose a democratic, environmental and social path as an alternative to neoliberalism,' the group stressed on social media.
Meanwhile, the ALBA-TCP France group also denounced 'foreign and imperialist interference in Bolivia,' and demanded an end to such intervention.
Mexico today questioned the complicit silence of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the face of the civil-military coup in Bolivia and requested an urgent meeting of the organization.
The announcement was made by Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard at the morning press conference by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, where he presented Mexico's position on the events in Bolivia.
Ebrard insisted that it is unacceptable that the armed forces of a country request the resignation of a president elected by the people, and reported on the roles of the military and opposition presidential candidates in the coup.
He noted that despite President Evo Morales' proposals for an audit of the vote, and even the calling of new elections, the coup advanced and he was forced to resign.
UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned this coup in no uncertain terms, saying: "To see @evoespueblo who, along with a powerful movement, has brought so much social progress forced from office by the military is appalling.
"I condemn this coup against the Bolivian people and stand with them for democracy, social justice and independence."
While Republicans decry what they deem Democrats’ “coup” to oust President Donald Trump, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is condemning what she considers a “coup” to remove a president in Bolivia.
“There's a word for the President of a country being pushed out by the military. It’s called a coup.
“We must unequivocally oppose political violence in Bolivia. Bolivians deserve free and fair elections.” ■
The main thing making weather headlines Friday and into the weekend will be the widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms across much of the central and eastern U.S., with a particular focus across southeast Texas, the Mid-South, and portions of Virginia.
