The person being investigated, who had an International Arrest Warrant in force, posed as an employee of a renowned commercial warehouse to defraud his victims.
As a result of the search of his home a chalet located in Ibiza the agents intervened numerous electronic devices, a key to a high-end vehicle, documentation of the corporate structure and a large amount of jewelry.
The funds received in the account controlled by the arrested person were later diverted to accounts located in Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Latvia, Monaco, Poland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Vietnam.
The modus operandi of the investigated consisted of posing as an employee of a renowned commercial warehouse to obtain asset transfers from various victims. In this way he defrauded more than one million US dollars.
As the investigations progressed, the agents confirmed that at least $700,000 was transferred by an American victim to an open UK account, with usurped documentation, in the name of a third person but controlled by the person investigated.
Likewise, and thanks to the information provided by the FBI, the investigation revealed that the funds received were later diverted to other accounts located in Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Latvia, Monaco, Poland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United United States and Vietnam.
The person investigated, a Polish national, had an International Arrest Warrant for the alleged commission of the crimes of fraud, identity theft and money laundering, as well as a history of arms trafficking.
Finally, the agents detained him in mid-June at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport when he was arriving from a flight from Dubai, handing over a diplomatic passport from Guinea Bissau at that time.
The investigators the result of an International Letter of Request carried out a search of his home, located in Ibiza, in which members of the FBI were also present.
As a result of it, numerous electronic devices were seized -including five computers, nine mobile phones, two hard drives, four USB sticks and eight SIM cards-, various documentation of the corporate structure and a large amount of jewellery. ■
