Indonesia: Submarine with 53 crew aboard missing

“We are still searching in the waters of Bali, 60 miles (96 km) from Bali, 53 people,” said military chief Hadi Tjahjanto.
“It’s true that the KRI Nanggala 402 lost contact since early this morning around 3:00 am,” said First Admiral Julius Widjojono. “is currently searching for it. We know the area but it’s quite deep.”
The German-made submarine, KRI Nanggala 402, was conducting a torpedo drill in waters north of the island of Bali on Wednesday but failed to relay the results as expected, a navy spokesman said. ■
