Joe Biden's electoral triumph in the United States is a hope to end family separations and deportations with human rights violations of migrants who transit through Mexico, an expert on this issue said.

Eunice Rendón, PhD in public policy at Sciences-Po Paris, expert in migration security and coordinator of Agenda Migrante, predicted that Mexico will cease to be a receiving country and will return to its role as a transit zone for Central Americans.
Mexico will once again be with Biden a country of transit for migrants, although different from the time before Trump's restrictions and limited by the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.
She clarified that Mexican borders will not be allowed to suddenly return to the policy of open arms, but if Biden fulfills his campaign promises, Mexico will stop retaining the 60,000 Central Americans who remain on the northern border awaiting asylum in the United States .
She warned there will not be a drastic change in immigration policy either, but the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will open the doors without restriction to Central Americans, since the coronavirus pandemic implies many restrictions.
She explained that although there are those who warn that Democrat Barack Obama was the one who carried out the most deportations, they were border actions; that is, against those who sought to enter the country.
In contrast, in Trump's policy, 80 percent of the deportations were 'inland'; that is, 'people with roots, with family and more time' in the United States, being much more cruel by separating families and deporting minors.
For now, she said, the most immediate action in which Mexico would benefit from the coming to power of Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president, is that both promised to end the agreement that obliged López Obrador to retain migrants from Central America.
Biden promised he would change and it is also a promise from Kamala to end the 'Remain in Mexico' program, that is the agreement by which the US government leaves all Central American migrants waiting on the Mexican side. ■
