Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity and regional network customers could face disruption to their journeys from this weekend due to protected industrial action.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union has advised they plan to take multiple forms of industrial action across the next two weeks, from Sunday 6 February until Monday 21 February. Other rail unions also have various forms of industrial action ongoing during this time.
The industrial action is being taken by rail unions despite ongoing negotiations on a new Enterprise Agreement and more than 30 bargaining meetings to date, including six since the start of this year, with a number of concessions already reached which could be included in a final agreement.
“Customers can expect varied impacts as the industrial action is taken over the next two weeks, however, we will provide as much information as possible for people to plan their journeys. We understand the ongoing disruptions are extremely frustrating for customers and we thank you for your patience,†Sydney Trains Chief Executive, Matt Longland said.
“We are disappointed the unions are choosing to take continued action, knowing the impact it will have on our customers.†“Train services have already been impacted by COVID-related staffing shortages. We are working hard to limit the impact for customers and school students, so it is clear this is not the time for industrial action.â€
“We urge the unions to focus on bargaining at the negotiation table.â€
“This union action and the impacts on the public transport system that are forecast will be felt by regional and rural customers who need to get to appointments or to visit family and friends,†NSW TrainLink Chief Executive, Dale Merrick said.
“Our customers come first, and we advise them to plan ahead as they may not be able to travel as they had intended or may face a dislocated journey on road coaches.â€
“We have endeavoured to help customers as much as possible to navigate this disruption by contacting people who have already bought tickets on NSW TrainLink services.â€
As a reduced timetable is still in place across the network, due to thousands of staff impacted by COVID-19, customers are urged to plan ahead. This includes parents and carers, with action likely to impact services for the school run. ■
