"Seven people were killed and 12 others [are] in a critical condition," the committee said, adding that an explosion caused a huge fire.

More than 90 people were injured in the blast, AFP says, citing a preliminary report from doctors.

Police have cordoned off the area of the explosion. The casualties were taken to several hospitals in Khartoum, the agency added.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the explosion at the factory.
