The accused acted in the town of Torrejón de Ardoz and neighboring areas, places where he received high-end mobile terminals with a market price of more than 1,000 euros, to later resell them to third parties. The profile of the impersonated identities was varied, even supplanting the identity of deceased persons.
The investigation began at the end of August 2021, when a huge volume of deliveries of mobile phone terminal orders was detected in Torrejón de Ardoz and its surroundings that responded to the same illicit pattern.
The detainee materialized new contracts or portability changes of telephone lines in the name of third parties whose identity he would have supplanted. He did not follow a specific profile in choosing these identities, even sometimes using that of deceased persons.
Said contracts entailed in most cases the acquisition of high-end mobile terminals, whose market price would exceed 1,000 euros, and were obtained in deferred payment mode. Both the terminals and the lines were ultimately unpaid as there were no bank accounts provided by the author.
The detainee falsified, using image editing tools, all the necessary documentation to formalize the fraudulent contracts that enabled him to acquire the terminals, locating in the records National Identity Documents, bank account statements and false Tax Agency documents.
The investigators were able to verify that the alleged perpetrator was fully aware of the operation of the mobile phone companies, making the contracts through telematic channels, telephone calls or the Internet, indicating as delivery addresses uninhabited places or places where it was impossible for the services to be delivered, thus forcing the distributors of the same to contact him to request a new delivery point, sometimes even using several locations for the same shipment.
When making the delivery of any order, the dealer would have to verify the identity of the recipient, not making said delivery in case of not being able to contrast it. However, as this practice is not common, the detainee has received packages whose recipient data correspond to 13 different identities. ■
