People whose homes and businesses were damaged by the devastating Storm Babet will receive financial support to help them recover from the impacts of the unprecedented flooding.

Those in local authority areas worst affected can now claim grants of £1,500 for damage to their homes and property. Businesses can claim £3,000.
In addition, £100,000 will be available to help families in Angus who have lost everything to resettle and rebuild their lives.
Councils are ready to accept applicants from Monday and will begin distributing funding next week. Following the Storm Babet Ministerial Taskforce which met for the second time on 29 November, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero MÃ iri McAllan said:
“There is no doubt that people, businesses and communities in the worst affected areas are still suffering hugely. Many are worried about what the immediate future holds, and we acknowledge that for many the festive season is going to be challenging.
“This grants scheme recognises this. I want to re-assure those affected that the Scottish Government will play our part in helping people and businesses through this horrible experience which has destroyed property and belongings.
“We have made sure the scheme is as simple and fair as possible for people to apply to, and to give councils discretion so they can help as many people and businesses as possible.
“As people begin to rebuild their lives we continue to stand beside the communities and local authorities on the long road to recovery.â€
The grants are available in local authorities which had an exceptional red warning for rain during Storm Babet ncluding Angus Council and Aberdeenshire Council and also in areas that were affected with catchments that cross local authority boundaries.
Flat rate grants of £1,500 are available to people whose primary residence was flooded. Businesses, charities and community groups which cannot operate, or which sustained significant damage and can only carry out limited work due to flooding, will be able to claim £3,000.
Grants provide financial support to all who meet the criteria, irrespective of whether they are council tenants, housing association, private renting or homeowners. Grants are available for both insured or uninsured properties.
Residential properties which only suffered flooding of the garden, or second homes, will not be eligible to apply.
This support is over and above our long standing annual funding of £42 million and the additional £150 million for flood risk management and £12 million for coastal change adaptation over the course of this parliament. ■
