Three die of suffocation aboard oil tanker in Philippines

Three crewmembers of an oil tanker died of suffocation on August 10 while they were cleaning out a cargo tank on the vessel.

Enrique Jay Gaspado, John Rey Illustrisimo and Ryan Jay Bantilan were found unconscious aboard the Andrina 200 by other crewmembers. The tanker is currently anchored off the coast of the Philippines near the town of Calaca, around 88km south of Manila.

After being found unconscious, the three crewmembers were rushed to hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Local media report that the men were cleaning the inside of an empty cargo tank and fell unconscious after inhaling fumes.
