Turkey bans plastic waste imports

Turkey banned the import of polymer waste on Tuesday after environmental group Greenpeace said it had been illegally dumped and burned in the country.

Polymers, commonly used in the production of items such as plastic bags and bottles, pipes, cables, packaging films, toys and food wraps, were removed from a list of waste products that can be imported, Sözcü newspaper reported, citing a government decision published in the Official Gazette.
