Reports from several national newspapers agree that, as a result of the social actions undertaken against fuel theft, people in the municipalities through which pipelines pass are failing to support this crime.
La Jornada, Excelsior and other newspapers publish reports from the federal police and some local agencies, as well as Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), reports in which they agree on a significant advance in the purpose of completely annulling fuel smugglers, popularly known as huachicoleros.
President Lopez Obrador himself indicates in his social network sites that, thanks to citizen complaints, authorities managed to detect and close several clandestine hydrocarbon leaks in Hidalgo, a state where last week a pipeline exploded while being 'milked' by traffickers.
The Federal Police explained that 18 milking points were found with the cooperation of the citizens.
Three of the leaks were in the municipality of Tetepango, 11 in Tlahuelilpan and four in Huichapan. Lopez Obrador firmly believes that the Wellbeing Plan for Integral Social Programs for the municipalities through which pipelines cross is working and 'has been well received by the people,' because in addition to generating social development, they are 'supporting the actions against the huachicol' (a word with which the president also designates every corrupt person).
In one of his many appearances before journalists, the president insisted that there is no resistance in the population. On the contrary, there is cooperation, there is support for government action. This has led to the same people now denouncing the existing clandestine leaks.
Arturo Jimenez, commissioner general of the Federal Police, explained that the work of 'emotional recovery' in Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, in charge of psychologists and experts in care, is managing to keep the population away from the pipelines to avoid risks of accidents, but it also encourages citizen complaints.
Lopez Obrador said that there are not only thieves in the oil sector.'The government is plagued with huachicol.'
There is huachicol in the different areas of government, in the purchase of medicines, in the electrical industry, in the construction sector. Huachicol up and down, and we're going to end up with the huachicol, we're going to end corruption and we're going to review everything, there's not going to be impunity.' ■
