The Jongert yard is known by their sailing super yachts and Guido de Groot knows how to design them. With a little help of Hugo van Wieringen of Azure Naval Architects they bring you the beauty - Jongert 3800 MY.
The plain numbers looks like this: Length over all: 123 ft (37,5 meters); displacement 160 tons; maximum speed 28 knots; two MTU engines can bring her aluminum body 1800 nm from home port.
However, as it always the case with design of that category, the numbers without the picture can't describe to Groot's design. The yacht for six crew and eight guest has state of the art technology built in: touch screen monitoring system, central hydraulics system, anchor winch driven by hydraulic power, capstans for berthing lines, the zero speed stabilizers...
And it has lot of space, Guido de Groot says: "This design has given the opportunity to generate a lot of space on open air decks. And still, this yacht offers a lot of interior space. Especially for a light displacement and fast yacht, it is very roomy. Not only the owners cabin at the main deck is full beam, the VIP guest suite at the lower deck also stretches out over the whole width of the yacht." To remove all distraction from the view, Guido kept the decks clean, the "additional equipment" can be stored in the stern garage, and no cranes or any other equipment can separate your eyes from the blue beauty.
While Guido thought about the space, Hugo van Wieringen worried about speed and stability: "Five percent extra weight may cause the yacht to reach top speeds several knots slower than initially intended. Hull shape is of course another significant criterion for speed. Hull form is also crucial to comfort and stability."
Guido de Groot designed some of the well-known yachts like Katrion, Mulder 63 and 68, Timmerman Yachts and, of course, the Jongert 2900 MY. For the Jongert yard the 3800MY is the first semi displacement motor yacht, and the fastest Jongert in history of the company. The construction of 3800 MY will begin in October this year, while delivery is planned in May 2009.
You work hard all year long and you certainly deserve an award. Let your heart guides you to Jongert. ■
