With Dynamic Select the driver is able to change the car's characteristics in just seconds and drive in a comfortable, sporty or efficient manner. Mercedes has also increased the range of available engines. The A 160 with 75 kW (102 hp) is the new entry-level model. The new efficiency champion is the 80 kW (109 hp) A 180 d BlueEFFICIENCY Edition with CO2 emissions of 89 g/km. With its design in the style of Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team, the Motorsport Edition model will particularly appeal to racing fans.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC also benefits from the model facelift. With peak output of 280 kW (381 hp) and a maximum torque of 475 Nm, the entry-level is the world's most powerful compact sports model. The revised gear ratios, aerodynamic fine-tuning and the new Dynamic Select driving modes raise overall performance to a higher level. The new-generation A-Class can be ordered from July 3, 2015 and the first models will be in dealer showrooms at the end of September.
Striking lines, dynamically curved surfaces and coupe-like window lines characterise the exterior of the A-Class, following the design philosophy of sensual clarity. The form of the new, more arrow-shaped front bumper takes its lead from the Concept A-CLASS from 2011. Bew LED High Performance headlamps and newly designed rear lights with exhaust tailpipes integrated into the bumper, the new generation emphasises the sportiness and dynamism of the successful compact class series.
The dynamic character continues in the interior: the new multifunction sport steering wheel ensures a perfect link between the car and its driver. The steering wheel rim with a flattened lower section, perforated leather in the grip area and red contrasting topstitching, is both attractive and pleasant to the touch. For better adjustment to different body sizes, the sport seats now feature seat cushion depth adjustment as standard. Thanks to telematics, the new A 45 can also be networked with a smartphone and internet. ■
