In his morning conference at the National Palace, the President said that a decree was eliminated from this very moment that allowed in the past 12 years to large businessmen, national and foreign, evade their tax obligations.
Lopez Obrador described this exoneration as 'huachicoleo' (theft) of white collar that is already eliminated because it ends with fiscal privileges and the Constitution, the letter and the spirit of the magna carta are validated, which forces everyone to contribute and expresses that there has to be a collection based on the principle of progressivism.
That is to say, he explained, those who obtain more income should contribute more, not those who earn less and, in this case, it happened very much to the contrary because in some cases the above did not pay taxes and when they did, they were returned.
That ends from now on because there will be no tax breaks for anyone, he stated.
Margarita Rios, Director of the Tax Administration System (SAT) of the Ministry of Finance, explained the evolution of tax revenues through taxes and how they gradually increase as the vigilance and the battle against the evasion of obligations that violated the income law increased.
Rios reported that from 2007 to 2012 were forgiven 161,931 billion pesos to 18,302 (more than 8,5 billion dollars) to large taxpayers, while from 2012 to 2018 the total forgiven rose to 238,971 billion pesos (more than 12,500 billion dollars) to 135,228 taxpayers, and said that along with the forgiveness also ends the tax secrecy.
The President signed in the same press conference the decree that eliminates this situation and promised to give journalists all the information on the matter because that meant a very large and intolerable leak of income that has harmed the nation by depriving it of funds for collective benefit programs. ■
