The country reached 'the sad mark of a million cases of coronavirus. Bolsonaro's impeachment is not a political issue,' Lula tweeted.

The trade union leader hinted that, in the face of this alarming situation, the impeachment against the former military officer 'is the only alternative if we want to defend life.' In early June, Lula blamed the former Army captain for the health calamity in Brazil.

'Bolsonaro has committed many crimes of irresponsibility and I think he already deserves to be punished for it,' Lula told CNN International television on a webcam from his home on the outskirts of Sao Paulo at the time.

He insisted that the president deserves the layoff for irresponsible and negligent handling of the coronavirus pandemic and for the country's economic collapse.
