Waltham, Mass., USA - July 2, 2014, Waltham, Mass., USA - Alere Inc., a diagnostic device and service provider, appointed COO Namal Nawana as interim CEO and president following the resignation of Ron Zwanziger as CEO, president and a director of the company.

Mr. Nawana has served as Alere's Chief Operating Officer since December 2012. Before joining Alere, Mr. Nawana spent 15 years at Johnson & Johnson in various leadership roles. Most recently, he served as the Worldwide President of DePuy Synthes Spine, a Johnson &
Johnson company.
Prior to that, Mr. Nawana was Area Vice President for Johnson & Johnson Medical's operations in Australia and New Zealand, Chairman of the DePuy Asia Pacific Franchise Council, General Manager for DePuy Australia and General Manager for DePuy Canada. Mr. Nawana holds a Masters of Medical Science from the University of Adelaide and an MBA from the Henley Business School.
Mr. Zwanziger has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of Alere Inc., since May 11, 2001. He has been the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Inverness Medical Innovations Inc., since May 11, 2001. Mr. Zwanziger served as the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Inverness Medical Technology, Inc., (Diabetes Diagnostics, Inc. ) from 1992 to November 2001.
He Co-founded that developed proprietary technologies and manufacturing processes from 1992 to November 2001. He founded Medisense, Inc. and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 1981 to 1991. Under his guidance, Medisense launched the first electronchemical blood glucose monitor in 1987. He served as Chairman of Alere Inc until 5 2014. He served as the Chairman of Inverness Medical Technology, Inc. and Medisense, Inc. from 1981 to 1991.
He has been a Director of Alere Inc. since May 11, 2001. He has been a Director of Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. since May 11, 2001. He served as a Director of AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (formerly Advanced Magnetics Inc.) from November 8, 2006 to December 16, 2011. He served as a Director of Inverness Medical Technology, Inc. since 1992. He has an Undergraduate Degree from Imperial College in 1975 and an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1981. ■
