Dundee, United Kingdom - September 25, 2015, Dundee, United Kingdom - Alliance Trust plc, an investing company, announced that Chris Samuel and Karl Sternberg have been appointed non-executive directors.

Mr. Samuel was Chief Executive of Ignis Asset Management from 2009 until its recent sale to Standard Life Investments. He was previously Chief Operating Officer at Gartmore and Hill Samuel and was a partner at Cambridge Place Investment Management.
Mr. Sternberg was a founding partner of Oxford Investment Partners where he worked from 2006 - 2013.
Prior to that he enjoyed a career in fund management at Deutsche Asset Management, latterly as Global Head of Equities and Chief Investment Officer for Europe and Asia Pacific.
The Company also announces that two of its current directors, John Hylands, who joined the Board seven years ago, and Alastair Kerr, the Senior Independent Director, who joined the Board three years ago, have indicated that they will retire from the Board at the AGM in May 2016.
Mr. Hylands graduated with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Glasgow. He joined Standard Life in 1979 and qualified as an actuary in 1982. His career at Standard Life spanned 28 years and included various actuarial, finance and management positions including serving as Finance Director from 2001 to 2005.
Mr. Hylands is a member of the Aviva UK Life With Profits Committee and is a Non-Executive Director of the Board of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group PLC. He also chairs the trustees of the Standard Life and BOC pension schemes.
Mr. Kerr is currently Chairman of J Murphy and Sons Ltd, MPC Group Pty Ltd (Australia), and Drilton Ltd. He is also a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee of Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC and of Havelock Europa PLC. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Fenwick Ltd.
Previously, Mr. Kerr has been Managing Director, EMEA, of The Body Shop International, Managing Director of Kwik-Fit, Group Chief Executive of Park Group, Chief Executive of Virgin Retail Europe and held various senior executive roles within Storehouse PLC.
Following this, it is intended that Karl Sternberg will become Senior Independent Director of the Company.

Mr. Sternberg is currently the Chairman of JP Morgan Income and Growth Trust PLC and holds non-executive directorships with Monks Investment Trust PLC, Lowland Investment Company PLC, Herald Investment Trust PLC, Railpen Investments and Clipstone Logistics REIT PLC. ■
