Hoffman Estates, Il., USA - November 22, 2010, Hoffman Estates, Il., USA - AMCOL International Corporation, an international producer of specialty minerals and related products, announced that president, chief executive officer and director, Lawrence E. Washow, will retire from these positions, effective December 31.

Mr. Washow is president and chief executive officer of AMCOL International. He joined American Colloid Company in 1978. He was promoted to manager of industrial relations in 1980 and vice president in 1986. Mr. Washow became vice president of Chemdal in 1986 and president in 1992. He became senior vice president of AMCOL in 1994. In August 1997, he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer.
He was named president in August 1998 and became chief executive officer in 2000. Mr. Washow has a bachelor's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
AMCOL also announced the promotion of Chief Operating Officer Ryan F. McKendrick to the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer as of January 1, 2011.
Mr. McKendrick joined American Colloid Co. in 1977 as a sales representative for the Environmental Products Division, and became division manager in 1978. He served as Building Materials Division manager from 1982-1987. Mr. McKendrick was a division vice president-general manager for Waste Management of North America from 1993 to1994. He rejoined AMCOL International's CETCO subsidiary in 1994 as manager of international sales, and later that year was appointed vice president.
Mr. McKendrick was appointed executive vice president in March 1998 and president in November 1998. In 2010, Mr. McKendrick became the chief operating officer for AMCOL. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Northwestern University and a master's degree in business administration, marketing, from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Evanston, Ill. ■
