Astral Foods appoints new chair

Johannesburg, South Africa - May 22, 2014, Johannesburg, South Africa - Astral Foods, a poultry producer, appointed Theuns Eloff as the new chairman, effective June 1, 2014.Article continues below
Dr. Eloff, until recently the Vice-Chancellor of North-West University, completed his studies at Potchefstroom University (now North-West University). He started his career as a minister of religion in Pretoria and left the ministry in 1989 to join the Consultative Business Movement (CBM), where he was appointed as Executive Director in 1990.
During his time with CBM he was seconded to both CODESA (1991-2) as Head of Process and Secretariat Services, and the Multi-Party Negotiations Process (1993) where he was Head of Administration, until the negotiated Interim Constitution was adopted.
In 1995 Dr. Eloff was appointed as Chief Executive of the National Business Initiative. He served on the Economic Advisory Council of the North-West Province, the Board of Business Against Crime and the Board of the Centre for Conflict Resolution.
In 2002 he became Vice-Chancellor of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. In 2004 he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the newly merged North-West University. He is past deputy chairman and chairman of Higher Education South Africa (HESA) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). He also served as vice-president and president of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI) from 2009 to 2012.
Dr. Eloff has been an independent non-executive director on the board of Astral Foods since May 2007, and during this time served on the Audit and Risk Management Committee and chaired the Social and Ethics Committee. ■ LATEST MOVES FROM South Africa
