Richmond, Va., USA - October 31, 2017, Richmond, Va., USA - CarMax, a retailer of used cars, announced that Cliff Wood plans to retire as executive vice president and chief operating officer by the end of the summer of 2018.

Cliff Wood was promoted to chief operating officer of CarMax in 2016.
He assumed the role of executive vice president, stores in 2012, where he was responsible for all sales, service, merchandising, and business office functions.
Previously, he was promoted to senior vice president, stores.
Beginning in 2007, Mr. Wood served as vice president of sales after serving in a variety of roles, including vice president of merchandising, purchasing manager, district manager, regional director and director of buyer development.
In 1993, Mr. Wood joined CarMax as a buyer in CarMax’s first location.
Prior to joining CarMax, he held various positions with Circuit City.
Mr. Wood will be succeeded by Ed Hill, CarMax’s executive vice president, strategy and business transformation.
Mr. Hill was promoted to executive vice president, strategy and business transformation in 2016.
Previously, Mr. Hill served as senior vice president, service operations and vice president of service operations, after joining CarMax in 1995 as director.
Prior to joining CarMax, he served as vice president of advanced programs at Reveo, Inc., vice president of operations at Hypres, and as a process engineer for Motorola.
CarMax also announced that two additional executives will be promoted.
Darren Newberry will be promoted to senior vice president, store operations, and Joe Wilson will be promoted to senior vice president, store strategy and logistics.
Mr. Newberry was promoted to vice president, regional sales, in 2016, responsible for the field sales organization through the 11 CarMax regions.
Mr. Newberry joined CarMax in March 2004 as location general manager-in-training in the Los Angeles region and was promoted to location general manager of the Duarte, California store in 2006.
Mr. Newberry was promoted subsequently to positions of increasing responsibility, including regional vice president general manager of the Baltimore region in 2013 and the Los Angeles region in 2014.
Prior to joining CarMax, he served as store manager and area manager for Bed, Bath and Beyond from 1994 to 2004.
Mr. Wilson was promoted to vice president, merchandising operations in 2016.
Mr. Wilson began his career at CarMax in May 1995 as a buyer-in-training at the Raleigh, N.C. store, where he was subsequently promoted to buyer and then senior buyer.
He later served as purchasing manager at two CarMax stores in southern Florida before being promoted to regional vice president of merchandising. ■
