CEO Alfredo Saenz Abad left Banco Santander

Madrid, Spain - April 29, 2013, Madrid, Spain - Alfredo Saenz Abad informed the board of Banco Santander that he resigns as vice chairman, chief executive officer and director.

Mr. Saenz joined Grupo Santander in 1994, when it acquired Banesto through an auction. He was executive chairman of the unit until 2002, when he was named vice chairman and chief executive of Banco Santander. He also served as chief executive officer and first vice-chairman of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, and chairman of Banco Espanol de Credito (Banesto). He graduated in Economics and Law.

The company announced that Javier Marin Romano will be the new chief executive officer.
