Alan J. Hirshberg, formerly vice president, Worldwide Deepwater and Africa Projects, ExxonMobil, will join the company as senior vice president, Planning & Strategy.
Prior to joining ConocoPhillips in 2010, Mr. Hirshberg was vice president, Worldwide Deep Water and Africa Projects for ExxonMobil Development Company (EMDC). Between 2000 and 2009, he held various management positions at ExxonMobil with a focus on offshore and deep water projects in countries including Norway, Australia, Angola, Nigeria, U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
Mr. Hirshberg also served as the EMDC Vice President, Established Areas Projects, with responsibility for major oil and gas and LNG projects in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong (Power), Venezuela, Nigeria, Chad and the U.S.
Mr. Hirshberg began his career at Exxon Production Research Company, in 1983. He held a series of planning, engineering and production operations jobs in various Exxon affiliates before being named a Senior Department Head and Upstream Planning Manager at Exxon Company, USA.
Mr. Hirshberg received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in 1982 and 1983.
Greg C. Garland, formerly president and chief executive officer of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, will join the company as senior vice president, Exploration & Production-Americas.
Prior to joining ConocoPhillips in 2010, Mr. Garland was president and chief executive officer of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. Before his election to that position, Garland served Chevron Phillips Chemical as senior vice president, Planning & Specialty Chemicals. His prior experience also includes serving as general manager of Qatar/Middle East for Phillips Petroleum Company, a position he was named to in 1997.
From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Garland served as general manager of natural gas liquids after serving as manager of planning and development in planning and technology. From 1992 to 1994, he was manager of the K-Resin® business unit.
Mr. Garland began his career with Phillips in 1980 as a project engineer for the Plastics Technical Center. Between 1982 and 1986, Garland worked as a sales engineer for Phillips' plastics resins and from 1986 to 1988 was a business service manager for advanced materials.
From 1988 to 1989, Mr. Garland was business development director in Bartlesville, Okla. In 1989, he became olefins manager for chemicals. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University in 1980. He is a member of the Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board for Texas A&M University.
Jeff W. Sheets, formerly senior vice president, Commercial and Planning & Strategy, was elected senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer.
Mr. Sheets held various positions in that group until 1990 when he joined Treasury as staff finance director. In 1993, he rejoined the Exploration and Production staff to become staff finance director in the Norway office. He served as commercial services manager for the company’s operations in Stavanger, Norway, from 1994 to 1997.
Mr. Sheets returned to the U.S. in 1998 as assistant treasurer, and was named vice president and treasurer in 2001. He was named to his current role in October 2010.
Mr. Sheets is on the board of directors of OIL Investment Corporation Limited, which manages investments for OIL Insurance Limited, a mutual insurance company owned by a wide range of energy and utility companies. ■
