Redmond, Wa., USA - January 11, 2013, Redmond, Wa., USA - Univar Inc., a global chemical distributor, announced the appointment of D. Beatty D’Alessandro as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective January 15, 2013.

Mr. D’Alessandro joins Univar after spending 29 years at Graybar, a distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services.
There, he served as Senior Vice President and CFO as well as on the Board of Directors. Earlier in his career at Graybar, he served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer, overseeing the successful deployment of an enterprise-wide SAP system.
Mr. D’Alessandro earned his Bachelor degree and Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Florida.
He serves on the Advisory Board of United Missouri Bank, on the Board and Finance Committee of Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and on the Boards of the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Missouri, for which he serves as Chairman, and the St. Louis chapter of Junior Achievement.
Mr. D’Alessandro’s appointment follows the announcement that Steven M. Nielsen will be resigning from Univar as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on January 15.
Mr. Nielsen has been Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Univar Inc. since April 2008.
Mr. Nielsen has over twenty years of progressive experience in the high technology driven telecommunications industry. He served as Senior Vice President of Univar Inc. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of IWO Holdings, Inc. since November 2000.
Most recently, Mr. Nielsen served as Vice President and General Manager of NEXTLINK-Washington, a competitive local exchange carrier, where he supervised all operations, including network build and market launch. Prior to that time Mr. Nielsen spent more than 11 years with Sprint and Sprint PCS in key financial positions.
He served as Chief Service Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance Operations of Sprint Nextel Corp. since May 10, 2007 and also its Chief Transition Officer.
He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sprint's PCS division since January 2003 until the announcement of the merger of Sprint and Nextel in December 2004. Mr. Nielsen served as Senior Vice President, Finance of Sprint Consumer Solutions (SCS).
Prior to joining SCS, he served as Chief Operating Officer of US Unwired Inc. from April 2002 to January 2003. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Independent Wireless One for nearly two years.
From 1995 to 1998, Mr. Nielsen served as Vice President of Finance Operations in the Wireless Division and as Area Vice President of Northwest with management responsibility for the wireless markets in Washington and Oregon.
Mr. Nielsen began his career at Sprint in 1984, and over eight years held several key positions, including Vice President of Internal Audit, Vice President and Assistant Controller and Vice President of Operations Controller for the long distance division. He served as a Director of IWO Holdings, Inc. since May 2001. He left Sprint from 1992 to 1995 to return to public accounting. ■
