Ellen Lord president and CEO of Textron Systems
Ms. Lord has been serving as the senior vice president and general manager of Textron Defense Systems (TDS), an operating unit of Textron Systems that manufactures smart weapons as well as advanced intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and protection systems.
Ms. Lord joined Textron in 1984 as a chemist for Textron’s Automotive Technology Center in Dover, N.H. where she led the development of an innovative new family of engineering thermoplastics.
She transitioned to Textron Systems in 1998 and since then has held a variety of leadership roles across its many businesses, including senior vice president and general manager of AAI Corporation and vice president of integration management for Textron Systems.
Ms. Lord succeeds Fred Strader who is retiring from the company.
Mr. Strader was named to this position in January 2010. He is also a member of Textron's Executive Leadership Team.
He previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Textron Systems Corporation.
He joined Textron Systems Corporation when AAI Corporation and its parent, United Industrial Corporation, were purchased by Textron in 2007. Mr. Strader had served as president of AAI Corporation.
Before joining AAI, Mr. Strader had a 21-year career with United Defense LP and its predecessor company, FMC.
He had been vice president of United Defense and general manager of the company's Armament Systems Division.
He was also a division manager of FMC's Agriculture Machinery Division, manager of strategic planning for FMC, and served in a number of planning, financial, and manufacturing positions within the company’s Steel Products Division.
He joined FMC as a corporate financial analyst in 1980.
Mr. Strader earned a master of business administration degree in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ripon College. ■
