Rome, Italy - May 12, 2014, Rome, Italy - Eni, an oil and gas company, appointed Claudio Descalzi as chief executive officer and general manager.

While a final decision will be taken at a later date, the Board confirmed Claudio Descalzi as Chief Operating Officer of the Exploration & Production Division.
Mr. Descalzi has been Chief Operating Officer of Eni - Exploration & Production Division - since July 2008. He is currently President of Assomineraria and Vice President of Confindustria Energia. He joined Eni in 1981 as Oil & Gas field petroleum engineering and project manager, for the development of North Sea, Libya, Nigeria and Congo. In 1990 he was appointed Head of reservoir and operating activities for Italy.
In 1994 Mr. Descalzi was named Managing Director of Eni subsidiary in Congo and in 1998 Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Eni subsidiary in Nigeria. From 2000 to 2001 he held the position of Executive Vice President for Africa, Middle East and China. From 2002 to 2005 he was Executive Vice President for Italy, Africa, Middle East covering also the role of Chairman of the board of several Eni subsidiaries in the area. In 2006 he was appointed Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Eni - Exploration & Production Division.
In 2012 Mr. Descalzi was the first European to receive the prestigious “Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal 2012‘ award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Institute of Mining Engineers. He graduated in physics in 1979 from the University of Milan.
The Board of Directors has also appointed: Pietro A. Guindani (as Chairman), Karina Litvack, Diva Moriani e Alessandro Lorenzi as members of the Compensation Committee, all non-executive and independent, including the Chairman; Mr. Guindani has the knowledge and experience in finance or remuneration policies required by the Corporate Governance Code.
Alessandro Lorenzi (as Chairman), Andrea Gemma, Karina Litvack and Luigi Zingales as members of the Control and Risk Committee, all non-executive and independent; Mr. Lorenzi, Ms. Litvack and Mr. Zingales have experience in the area of accounting and finance or risk management, as requested by the Corporate Governance Code. ■
