FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith to become executive chairman

Memphis, Tenn., USA - FedEx announced that, effective June 1, 2022, Frederick W. Smith, chairman and chief executive officer, will become executive chairman.

Frederick W. Smith, Yale College 1966, is the founder, chairman, and CEO of FedEx Corporation.

After four years of service in the Marines, including two tours of duty in Vietnam, Mr. Smith launched the original air-ground Federal Express network, which began operations in 1973.

Raj Subramaniam, President and Chief Operating Officer, will be promoted to President and CEO.

Mr. Subramaniam was elected to the FedEx Board of Directors in 2020 and will maintain his seat on the Board.

Prior to his role as President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Corp., Mr. Subramaniam was President and Chief Executive Officer of FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company.

He also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of FedEx Corp., where he was responsible for developing the corporate strategy.
