Hong Kong, China - March 11, 2013, Hong Kong, China - Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) announced that it has appointed Zhirong Mao as senior vice president, head of Mainland Development, effective May 1, 2013.

Mr. Mao, who will also be a member of the Management Committee, has extensive experience, including senior roles with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE). His most recent position was Director of Strategy and International Affairs, Director of Financial Innovation Lab and Head of Derivative Product Task Force at the SZSE. He joined the SZSE in 2001 and was involved in member supervision when he was a deputy director at Member Supervision Department.
The SZSE appointed Mr. Mao to the board of China Exchanges Services Company Limited (CESC), HKEx’s joint venture with Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, when CESC was established in the second half of last year and he subsequently became one of CESC’s co-chairmen. He was also with Wellpoint and he held a variety of positions of increasing seniority across functions including information technology, product development and risk management.
Mr. Mao holds Bachelor degree in Economics from Fudan University, a Masters degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, and a PhD in International Affairs from UC San Diego.
Mr. Mao will join HKEx on March 11, 2013 to ensure a smooth transition when the current head of Mainland Development, Qiumei Yang, steps down on April 30, 2013.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) has appointed Ms. Yang as Senior Vice President, Deputy Head of Market Development and Head of the Market Development Division’s Mainland Development Department two and a half years ago and named her the Senior Management Committee.
Ms. Yang has strong credentials and extensive experience in securities market regulation on the Mainland. She was Deputy Director-General in the Department of Investment Fund Supervision at the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), where she was in charge of supervising fund management companies and matters related to Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors and Qualified Domestic Institutional Investors.
Ms. Yang joined the CSRC in August 2000 and has served on its Planning Commission and as Deputy Director-General in the Department of International Affairs, where she was involved in the CSRC's signing of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions' Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding.
Before joining the CSRC, Ms. Yang was a consultant at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Economics at George Washington University in the US. She had different research and teaching posts early in her career, including positions at Peking University, the University of Illinois in the US and Latvian University of Agriculture in Eastern Europe. ■
