HSBC announces new leadership team

New York, USA - September 28, 2010, New York, USA - HSBC Holdings plc announced new leadership team with Stephen Green as group chairman and Stuart Gulliver as group chief executive.

The new leadership team also includes Sandy Flockhart who will become chairman, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Commercial Banking and Chairman of HSBC Bank plc. Sir Simon Robertson will remain the senior independent non-executive Director and assume the role of Deputy Chairman. Iain Mackay will be appointed Group Finance Director.

Mr .Green is a career banker having joined The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in 1982 with responsibility for corporate planning activities.

Mr. Green was Group Treasurer, with responsibility for HSBC's treasury and capital markets businesses globally from 1992 to 1998, and executive Director, Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets, from 1998 to 2003, when he was appointed Group Chief Executive.

Mr. Green has worked in Hong Kong, New York, the Middle East and London and has extensive international experience and knowledge of the HSBC Group.

Mr. Green served as an executive Director since 1998, and Group Chief Executive from 2003 to 2006. He joined HSBC in 1982. and served as chairman of the Nomination Committee since 26 February 2010. A director of HSBC Bank plc having ceased to be chairman on 21 April 2010.

Mr. Green served as a director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. Chairman and a director of HSBC Private Banking Holdings (Suisse) SA until 25 February 2010. Mr. Green is chairman of The British Bankers' Association and, since April 2009, a non-executive Director of BASF SE.

Mr. Gulliver is a career banker with over 29 years' international experience with HSBC. He has held a number of key roles in the Group's operations worldwide, including in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and the United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Gulliver served as an executive Director since 2008. He joined HSBC in 1980 and has beena ppointed a Group General Manager in 2000 and a Group Managing Director in 2004.

Mr. Gulliver was chairman of HSBC Bank plc since 21 April 2010, HSBC Private Banking Holdings (Suisse) SA since 25 February 2010, HSBC Bank Middle East since 15 February 2010 and HSBC France since January 2009.

Mr. Gulliver also served as a director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, deputy chairman and a member of the Supervisory Board of HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt AG, and as co-head of Global Banking and Markets from 2003 to 2006.

Sir Simon brings to the Board a background in international corporate advisory with a wealth of experience in mergers and acquisitions, merchant banking, investment banking and financial markets.

During his career Sir Simon has worked in France, Germany, the UK and the USA. In June 2010 he was honoured with a knighthood in recognition of his services to business. Sir Simon is a non-executive chairman of Rolls-Royce Group plc and the founder member of Simon Robertson Associates LLP. A non-executive Director since 2006 and senior independent nonexecutive Director since 2007. Sir Simon-s former appointments include: Managing Director of Goldman Sachs International; and chairman of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.

Prior to joining HSBC, Mr. Mackay was at General Electric in the US from 1996 to 2007. He joined General Electric as Controller of the Global Consumer Finance unit, and rose to become Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GE Consumer Finance - Americas, then as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GE Healthcare - Global Diagnostic Imaging.

During 1990 to 1996, Mr. Mackay was with Schlumberger Dowell, working in the finance and audit divisions and over this period of time held the roles of Region Finance Director for Europe/Africa and the same for South East Asia.
