Houston, Tx., USA - August 28, 2013, Houston, Tx., USA - Marathon Oil Corporation announced that Janet F. Clark, executive vice president and chief financial officer, has elected to retire, effective October 1, 2013, after serving almost 10 years as the company's CFO.

Ms. Clark joined Marathon in January 2004 after having previously served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for Nuevo Energy from 2001 through 2003. Before joining Nuevo, Ms. Clark worked at Santa Fe Snyder where she assumed the role of executive vice president of Corporate Development and Administration in 1999. Ms. Clark joined Santa Fe in 1997 as chief financial officer.
She began her career as an investment banker specializing in corporate finance, primarily with The First Boston Corporation, now owned by Credit Suisse. Ms. Clark serves on the Board of Directors of Dell, Inc.. Ms. Clark also serves on the Rice University-Jones Graduate School of Management Council of Overseers. She also is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas' Business and Community Advisory Council. Additionally, she was recently named to the Forbes One Hundred Most Powerful Women In The World.
Ms. Clark earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Harvard University and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
The Marathon Oil board of directors has elected John R. Sult to succeed Ms. Clark as executive vice president and CFO effective September 3, 2013. Ms. Clark will serve as executive vice president, assisting in transition related matters during the month of September.
Mr. Sult was a member of El Paso Corporation's executive management team from 2005 until the company was acquired by Kinder Morgan Inc. in 2012. While with El Paso, he served as executive vice president and CFO from 2010 to 2012 and senior vice president and CFO from 2009 until 2010. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president, chief accounting officer and controller from 2005 until 2009.
Mr. Sult also served as senior vice president, CFO and controller of El Paso's Pipeline Group from 2005 to 2009 and as CFO of the general partner of El Paso Pipeline Partners L.P. from 2007 to 2012. Prior to joining El Paso, he served as vice president and controller of Halliburton Energy Services from 2004 until 2005, where he was responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting for the company's energy services business unit.
Before joining Halliburton, Mr. Sult was an audit and business advisory partner with Arthur Andersen LLP where he gained more than 20 years of experience working with public and private companies in the energy industry. ■
