Mr. Adams represents clients in a wide range of intellectual property matters, including: trademark litigation and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings; national and international advertising campaigns; international brand management including trademark clearance, filing, prosecution, maintenance and portfolio management; domestic and international licensing, franchise agreements and related recordation requirements; mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances involving intellectual property assets; securitization of intellectual property assets; and internet-related intellectual property matters. He joined Mayer Brown in 2007 and is a graduate of DePaul University College of Law.
John P. Boelter, Corporate & Securities, Chicago
Mr. Boelter is a transactional lawyer whose practice focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions and corporate and securities law matters. He represents purchasers and sellers of domestic and international businesses in complex public and private mergers, stock and asset acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and strategic alliances. He also represents issuers and underwriters in public and private offerings of equity and debt securities, consent solicitations, tender offers and exchange offers, and provides counsel on securities compliance and corporate governance matters. He graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and joined the firm in 2005.
Marius A. Boewe, Corporate & Securities, Cologne
Mr. Boewe counsels corporate clients on regulatory law matters, particularly in the areas of regulatory, aviation, energy and environmental concerns. He advises airline and airport clients on such issues as airport fees, ground handling and outsourcing concerns. He has been involved in the foundation of the first German bad bank and other current financial bail-out cases. In the energy field, he acted on the building and operation of two major power plants. In the environmental arena, he advises clients on matters including potential future liabilities and risk allocation for cleanup of contaminated sites. He joined the firm in 2005 and holds a doctorate from the University of Freiburg.
Francis K. W. Chen, Banking & Finance, Hong Kong
Mr. Chen acts for banks, financial institutions and corporate borrowers on all types of local and cross-border debt financing transactions, including: plain vanilla and secured bilateral and syndicated loan facilities, receivables purchase facilities, asset-based financing, limited recourse pre-payment facilities and leveraged finance facilities. He joined Mayer Brown JSM in 1999 and holds law degrees from the University of New South Wales and the University of Hong Kong.
Maggie C. K. Cheung, Banking & Finance, Hong Kong
Ms. Cheung's practice focuses on the shipping industry. She advises banks and financial institutions on all aspects of ship finance transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, in particular in preparing loan agreements and security documents, loan structuring and non-contentious restructuring. She also acts for shipowning companies on commercial shipping matters including the sale and purchase of ships, charterparties, management agreements, registrations, corporate and other industry related issues. Jeremy Cunningham, Corporate & Securities, Hong Kong
Mr. Cunningham advises on a wide range of corporate matters, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and disposals, private equity investments, venture capital work and various commercial work, including advising clients in connection with sourcing transactions. He joined Mayer Brown in May 2005 in the London office’s Corporate & Securities practice and worked on secondment in Mayer Brown JSM’s Ho Chi Minh City office in Vietnam between June 2008 and January 2010, where he began his continuing involvement with energy and power projects. Mr. Duncan is an experienced litigator, having acted in claims up to and including in the House of Lords. Richard Goldstein, Pensions, London
Mr. Goldstein has a diverse pensions practice, acting for a broad range of pension schemes ranging in asset size from less than ?100 million to more than ?4 billion. He advises on all aspects of pensions design and management, including drafting definitive scheme documentation for schemes, advising on legislative developments and negotiating agreements on behalf of trustees. He also advises employers on pension issues arising from transactions and other projects. He joined Mayer Brown in 2006 and holds a law degree from Bristol University.

Mr. Gonon concentrates his practice in banking and finance. He advises credit institutions, sponsors and industrial groups in the areas of structured finance, securitization, leveraged finance, regulatory and compliance matters. Mr. Harris has extensive litigation experience involving a wide array of complex litigation, including the areas of consumer class action, data breach and privacy-related matters, defamation, securities fraud, antitrust, accounting liability, insurance coverage, labor and employment, lien foreclosure and criminal. He has prepared and argued motions in state and federal courts and has tried two criminal trials, winning a non-guilty verdict in a murder case and obtaining a favorable plea for a defendant in the midst of the trial. Chadwick A. Hoyt, Banking & Finance, Chicago
Mr. Hoyt’s practice focuses especially on structured finance, with an emphasis on asset-backed and mortgage-backed securitization. He also has experience in secured lending, leasing and leveraged leasing. His securitization experience includes representing foreign and domestic issuers and underwriters in a wide range of asset classes. He also has experience in corporate transactions, including the formation and structuring of entities, commercial transactions and joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, and corporate restructurings. Brian W. Kittle, Tax Controversy, New York
Mr. Kittle represents clients in all facets of tax controversy. His litigation experience includes major corporate tax cases involving substance-over-form disputes, economic substance issues, valuation issues, Subchapter C issues and leasing transactions. His specific experience in tax litigation involves dealing with discovery issues, defending depositions, examining witnesses at trial and drafting post-trial briefs. He also advises clients on administrative matters, including IRS audits and IRS appeals. Mr. Liebrich focuses his practice on banking and IT transactions. Ms. Lin’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, antitrust matters, and government investigations and enforcement proceedings. Her clients include financial institutions, as well as pharmaceutical and technology firms. Most recently, Paula was part of a trial team representing a major clearing bank that obtained judgment in its favor on all claims brought by a bankruptcy trustee, and she advised another firm in connection with antitrust claims arising in an intellectual property lawsuit. She joined Mayer Brown in 2003 after clerking for Judge R. Barclay Surrick (E.D. Pa.), and is a 2002 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Matthias J. Meckert, Real Estate, Frankfurt
Mr. Meckert advises investors and banks on their investments (primarily cross-border) in German real estate. In addition, he provides strategic counsel on the restructuring of real estate loans and on distressed real estate assets. He also advises non-German lenders on their activities in the German lending market and on their portfolio management. On the investor’s side he represents various real estate funds on their (sometimes pan-European) financing structures including questions of German Investment Law and foreign investors buying German real estate. The acquired/financed properties comprise office, retail (including complex shopping centers), logistics and residential properties.
